Exquisite Decorative ROSENTHAL BELVEDERE Pattern TEAPOT w/WARMER & LID
, Hand Decorated BLUE & AMBER FLORALS Pattern, on WHITE Embossed & Scalloped MONBIJOU Mold from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Circa 1981-1998
DESCRIPTION:
This intricate but elegant pattern has a large spray of blue & amber flowers with trailing vines. The rim of the Monbijou mold which was introduced in 1896 is heavily scalloped and embossed. The handle is molded, not attached. These are quite striking. There is an indention in the bottom of the warmer to accommodate a candle for warming and 5 ovals for allowing air into the candle. This must be so pretty when the candle is lit. This is a real beauty that was decorated by a most talented artist in the Rosenthal studio!
CONDITION:
The condition of this Rosenthal teapot set is superb. We can find no defects and only the most minor damage. See photo #10 to find the small, smooth flake on the outside bottom rim of the teapot. This is covered by the warmer when the teapot is in position. There are no chips, other flakes, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is.
DIMENSIONS:
The teapot handle to spout is 8 3/4” with a diameter of 5 1/4”. The height to top of the handle without the warmer is 5 1/2”. With the warmer in place the height is 8 1/2”. The warmer has a diameter of 5 3/4”and a height of 3 1/8”. The scalloped, embossed teapot sits inside the 1/4” lip of the warmer.
HISTORY/MARKS:
In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. This teapot set is on the Monbijou mold which was introduced in 1896. This is part of the Rosenthal Group Classic Rose Collection Series. The website marks4ceramics cites this as mark #3 used 1975 on, while the Belvedere pattern was produced 1981 - 1998 .
